1 Timothy

We are preaching through the book of 1 Timothy from September until November 2017:

Household of God 586 x 3521 Timothy - Instructions for the Household of God

The purpose that Paul gives for writing 1 Timothy is twofold:

  1. To exhort Timothy, his representative in Ephesus, to charge certain persons not to teach any different doctrine, nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies (1 Timothy 1:3-4). [Sermon / Blog]
  2. To teach Timothy how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, a pillar and buttress of the truth (1 Timothy 3:14-15). [Sermon / Blog]

Whereas the first reason is reactionary, the second reason is proactive. Both reasons demonstrate that Paul's First Letter to Timothy contains enduring instructions for God's universal church.

At Southshore, we desire to implement these instructions so that we become a "living epistle" in Barrie:

  • Instruction 1: Teach the truth / Sermon / Blog
  • Instruction 2: Pray for all people / Sermon / Blog
  • Instruction 3: Men, pray without anger or quarreling / Sermon / Blog
  • Instruction 4: Women, adorn yourselves in respectable apparel, modesty, and self-control / Sermon / Blog
  • Instruction 5: Men are to teach and exercise authority in the church / Sermon / Blog
  • Instruction 6: Appoint qualified overseers / Sermon / Blog
  • Instruction 7: Appoint qualified servants / Sermon / Blog
  • Instruction 8: Reject false teaching / Sermon / Blog
  • Instruction 9: Give this job description to your pastor / Sermon / Blog
