History

In the fall of 2009, a local group of believers recognized the lack of evangelical presence in the growing and southwardly expanding area of Barrie and sensed that God was laying it on their hearts to plant a church there. After a season of prayer and exploration, it was concluded that although this was a needed ministry and a burden on all their hearts, God was saying, “Wait.”. While the desire remained, the church would have to wait for His clear directive, which happened when the doors opened for this call in January, 2012. After months of prayer, discussion, and personal reflection, a core group of families extended a call to Pastor Jason Austin and his family who were at the time living and ministering in Massachusetts. The Austins accepted the call to plant a church and relocated their family to Barrie in July, 2012.

Southshore Bible Church held its first service in August of that year in the Bob Rumball Home for the Deaf. To better suit the church’s ministry needs, Southshore relocated in October of 2012 to École La Source, a school facility on Madeline Drive.

Austin-Family-150x150In 2012, Jason & Laura Austin and their five children, Jack, Kate, Maddie, Cole and Brooke moved to Canada were where they were one of five families to plant Southshore Bible Church. After four years of fruitful ministry in Barrie, the Austins returned stateside for family reasons. They are currently living in Marion, Ohio, where Jason is pastor of Southview Baptist Church. Though their family is missed greatly, we are thankful for the years they were able invest in building God’s church in Barrie!
