8 Servants [Διακόνους] likewise must be dignified, not double-tongued, not addicted to much wine, not greedy for dishonest gain. 9 They must hold the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience. 10 And let them also be tested first; then let them serve [διακονείτωσαν] if they prove themselves blameless. 11 Women [Γυναῖκας] likewise must be dignified, not slanderers, but sober-minded, faithful in all things. 12 Let servants [διάκονοι] each be the husband of one wife, managing their children and their own households well. 13 For those who serve well [διακονήσαντες] gain a good standing for themselves and also great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus (1 Timothy 3:8-13, ESV).
Southshore Stewards are servants (deacons) that are called upon to help the Elders. In keeping with God’s original purposes for men and women AND in keeping with the clear prohibitions given in 1 Timothy 2:12, stewards shall be men and women who, in their capacity as Stewards, do not teach or exercise authority.
For more on our application of 1 Timothy 3:8-13, we have gathered several articles here, on our blog.
